It is mostly covered with flora such as Sal, Sali, and Dhobin, and it has wide tracts of grasslands scattered across 32 hills. Despite being smaller than other wildlife parks, the area boasts one of the greatest tiger densities in the world. Aside from the fort, a 60-foot statue of Lord Vishnu sleeping (Shesh Shaiya) is a popular tourist attraction in Bandhavgarh Park's Tala Zone.

The beautiful Sal and Bamboo forest, undulating meadows, and flowing streams of Kanha Tiger Reserve cover 1945 square kilometres in the centre of the central highlands. This is the original Kipling land, memorialized in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. The park is the only place in the world where the uncommon Hard Ground Barasingha may be found in its vast grasslands. Its most notable accomplishment has been the near-extinction of the Hard Ground Swamp Deer, or Barasingha. They numbered just 66 in 1970 and now number at over 600-700, making them the sole wild Barasingha population. Kanha also has Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Deer, Ungulates, Lesser Cats, and over 300 bird species.
